Kunonga: latest spree

From the Telegraph a report by Peta Thorneycroft Mugabe bishop accused over ‘spree’:

The Anglican Bishop of Harare has cancelled church services on Sunday to mark the occasion of his wedding anniversary and instructed clergy and congregations to contribute gifts and food to his party…

No celibacy for him, then ?!

Whatever became of the Lord’s Day ? Having been raised a Sabbatarian, my relatives of those days would be turning in their graves. Hardly seems very scriptural or evangelical. I do like folks to choose for themselves and not be dictated to by clergy.

Well, I/we celebrated our 30th anniversary last Monday (good timing, eh – had we waited a week to marry, our Significant Anniversaries would have fallen on September 11th) but I refrained from cancelling the liturgy. But (with unusual fairness) +Harare isn’t the sort of person I can imagine any Christian, even ++Abuja finding acceptable. Perhaps the biggest concern is the supine attitude which Mr Malango has taken towards +Harare, which surely undermines any moral authority which he (= Mr Malango) may have had, and which cannot but help undermine any pronouncement he makes on any issue within the church. In the case of Bishop Kunonga of Zimbabwe all right thinking anglicans of whatever shade know he has gone overboard. I would rather have Gene Robinson that Bishop Kunonga – and I am a black African.
