There have been some interesting comments by various folks elsewhere about how big a financial hammer TEC actually wields. One point is that TEC is experiencing a serious shortfall, which is only going to go from bad to much, much worse in the current crisis. Has anyone in a position of authority in TEC been un-Christian enough to threaten economic retaliation?
I think it speaks to the grace of the progressives that exactly no one has actually made that threat. Indeed, I’ve heard no talk of it until the recent stories in the mainstream media.
That said, I have heard the odd progressive express some annoyance that they have largely been paying to have themselves beaten up.

I think there is strong sentiment among many progressives along the lines of, if we are held not to be in the AC, or are given some diminished role, then let’s continue to fund Anglican Communion programs aimed at the MDGs and other ways to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, heal the sick etc., and divert to those programs any money currently used for supporting institutional infrastructure.
