So the silly season comes to an end with this turn-up for the books. Five years is a long time and British society has moved on, with civil partnerships and anti-discrimination laws. Indeed, if the best candidate is deprived of the see solely because of his sexual orientation, there would be strong grounds for an employment tribunal – the exemptions granted to organised religion would not apply in Jeffrey John’s case as he is celibate. Although the Windsor moratorium on gay bishops does not distinguish between ‘practising’ and ‘non-practising’, it is not legally binding and there would be an outcry… Read more »

I don’t know why the concept of a moratorium keeps being brought up. Sure, the bishops kind of reached a broad gentlemens agreement at Lambeth, but it is otiose, dead in the water and completely untenable in view of the FoCA’s latest proclamation.

The theme of the Lambeth conference was *Better Bishops*. There is ample evidence that Jeffrey John would make a splendid bishop — indeed, probably just the type of bishop the Church needs. How stupid would it be to let the dogmatic dinosaurs persuade the Church cut off its nose in spite of the face AGAIN.

It is well established that David Anderson is a schismatic and a Donatist heretic. We now have evidence that he is either a fool or a liar – though the possibility that he is both cannot be dismissed. His bizarre comments implying that Rowan Williams’s “intelligence operatives” [?] would ensure he would know well in advance who will or will not be nominated in a closed door session at Bangor Cathedral this October would be strange enough. His further implications that Williams will some how bear responsibility for the outcome of the meeting demonstrates that Anderson is either seriously disturbed… Read more »

In 12 years of women priests , not one female Dean or Archdeacion has been appointed in the Church in Wales..the Electoral College will not elect John, it is too conservative ( or safe hands rather)…but is Dean Slee in the running for St Asaph?

Malcolm we are told clearly by Our Lord not to call our brothers fools…..meanwhile the choice of the new Bishop of St Davids shows how cautious the new appointments in Wales will be..so don’t hold your breath.>

“Bishop Anderson warned (that)the election of a gay bishop in Wales would worsen the already difficult problems within the Communion, and urged Dr Williams to act. “Dr Williams might well wish not to know until too late, so that nothing is left on his doorstep for evidence,” he said, but “Dr Williams, if you are on record as knowing about this, and the event takes place despite all the ‘moratoria’ recommendations that were made, the Archbishop of Canterbury will not get a free pass on this one“. George Conger (R. Intelligence) This would appear to be a direct threat against… Read more »

I don’t think David Anderson is a fool. I think he’s a liar.

I was merely trying to lay out possible alternatives.

Good to see you commenting on line, Robert Ian Williams. Can you tell us whether or not you have actually crossed the Tiber and been received yet into the Roman Catholic Church? And if so, what are your clear intentions in commenting on the Anglican Church in Wales, and elsewhere?
Just wondering.

The English have been trying to interfere in Wales for centuries with disastrous results for the Welsh language and self determination.

Nonetheless, Welsh culture and language is on the up after vicious offical attempts, –as recently as the last century — to supress it.

So now some Americans want to stick their oar in too, do they ?

Welsh institutions never cave in to foreign pressure!

The Church in Wales has its own ways and its own guidance issued by, yes — her very own bishops and Governing Body.

When the UK Labour Party interfered in the selection of the Welsh Labour Party leader, Ron Davies turned into a political embarrassment.

Then the UK Labour Party interfered again, and Alun Michael turned out to be an electoral disaster.

When the UK Labour Party finally stopped interfering, Rhodri Morgan did just fine.

When will the English learn to stop interfering in Welsh affairs?

Response to Ron..yes I have crossed the Tiber and I am a Catholic, but I have an interest in the institution that still is the spiritual home of many of my family.
