The Canadian General Synod held its opening service on Thursday evening. The Anglican Journal reports on the service: Colour and joy mark opening service
There is also a report on the Anglican Church of Canada’s website: Opening Worship Sets Tone for General Synod; Delegates Called to Feel the Winds of God and Chart a New Course, and the text of the sermon preached by Bishop Miguel Tamayo of Cuba and Uruguay.
Some papers have previewed the synod in recent days.

Peter,
You may want to add Hiltz’s address to synod in this post, or separately. Among other things he speaks to the ABC’s Pentecost letter.

The articles listed from the secular news papers and news services, provide a pretty fair assessment of the dynamics going into GS around the human sexuality issue. It’s unfortunate, however, that delegates to General Synod could not be trusted with open debate on the floor. Passions might run free, and then, well, what would the neighbors think?
Here is the Primate’s opening address. I found it very moving, thoughtful and direct, yet full of faith and hope. I like how he refers to “our beloved Church”. He has said this before and it’s good to know he feels that way, as many of us do. He says very similar things as The Presiding Bishop did in the U.S regarding the winds of the Spirit and the Covenant.

Peter, the newspaper in Halifax is the Chronicle-Herald, not the Herald. (Or the Chronically Horrid, as we called it when I was under naval training in Slackerfax.)
I’ve linked to Hiltz’s address in a separate Friday article. Please make any further comments there and not here.
I’m in England, so many of the articles for a particular day are not available to me until the following day. In general I’ll keep to one article a day.
I’ve corrected the name of the Chronicle-Herald.

What a cynical young man– hard to believe he has much faith, at all.
– oh, claims to be an ‘Evangelical’, I see.
“Normally wild horses could not drag me to spend a week witnessing the meanderings of 400 Anglicans ruminating on the state of the church. However, as a conservative Anglican blogger, when I first applied to attend Synod, I detected subtle intimations that my presence would not be a cause for rejoicing; what greater incentive to come could I have asked for?” – David Jenkins, ‘Eternity’ – Looking past the esoteric blog name – one is amused to read this smart little pericope on that site. The question might be asked: “Why, then is Mr Jenkins bothering to go along, and… Read more »
