Following the consecration of Glyn Webster, an election has been held to elect his successor as prolocutor [ie chair] of the lower house [ie clergy] of the Convocation of York.
The Venerable Cherry Vann, the Archdeacon of Rochdale, was elected unopposed.
Amongst other things the prolocutor is an ex officio member of the Archbishops’ Council.
Another vote for women! Deo gratias!
Indeed Fr Smith, and a woman priest who argued very forcibly in Synod for coordinate jurisdiction. She is a great friend to traditionalists, who, I am sure, will welcome her appointment too.
“She is a great friend to traditionalists, who, I am sure, will welcome her appointment too.”
Good. All the clergy of the Convocation of York should welcome their new female head.
No Jeremy, I doubt conservative evangelicals would see it that way. I am not an evangelical but recognise the good work Ms Vann did in seeking to help us traditionalists, so as an Anglo-Catholic I have no problem with what is a legal appointment and not a sacramental one.
