The Revd Canon Sue Booys has been elected Chair of the Business Committee of the General Synod of the Church of England, it was announced today. The detailed election results are here.
Canon Booys is team rector of the Dorchester Team of Churches in the diocese of Oxford.
Quite a competitive election, with 5 candidates, and what looks like a Single Transferable Vote (STV) voting system. The final result is interesting; the 2 candidates who reached the final run-off were Sue Booys (who won with 187 votes) comfortably beating the runner up Gerald O’Brien (113 votes). Mr O’Brien is a conservative; he voted strongly against women bishops, proposed in July 2010 General Synod an amendment which was not even voted on whereby every PCC would have been forced to vote every 5 years on a (no women) Letter of Request and, in the July 2008 debate on women… Read more »
