We reported Joe Cassidy’s untimely death here. His funeral took place last week. St Chad’s College website has this brief report.
Dr Cassidy RIP
The funeral of our much loved Principal, Joe Cassidy, took place on Friday 17th April in Durham Cathedral. It was a wonderful tribute to the man and this college, which he has done so much to shape. The order of service, Bishop David Stancliffe’s sermon and the beautiful eulogy by his daughter, Emmeline, may be seen HERE.
I’ve copied those links below.

I was always impressed by ‘Papa Joe’s’ reflections on T.A. The love was always in the foreground of every statement he made. May Joe now rest in peace, and rise one day with Christ in glory. Amen
Peter,
Thanks very much indeed for this,
John.
Thank you to +David Stancliffe for his words. Joe was a dear man, and a dear friend. His contribution to Anglican polity – helping us all think through issues complex of identity and praxis – was truly remarkable. We miss him greatly, and he is much-mourned. We give thanks for his life and his loves – not only of the church, St. Chad’s and Durham, but most especially for Gillian and their three children. (Emmeline’s tribute is remarkable for its poise and grace, and in one so young. Joe would have been proud).
A member of Chad’s long ago, I did not know Joseph Cassidy though returning there last year – and through its magazine – but I knew a little of what by God’s grace and his own, he achieved. And his daughter and the Bishop through their very moving and very helpful words have extended even further the blessings he brought.
