It seems to me that ACc-16 has been a good-natured and productive gathering. What a contrast to the clearly fractious gathering of primates earlier in the year,which says something about Anglican primates which is not to their collective credit.
With the gracious restraint of Ian Douglas, yet again the Episcopal Church of the USA is showing what it means for the members of the Anglican Communion to “Walk Together” in unity. The meeting of the ACC in Zambia has shown that the common bonds we share together, within a world-wide Anglican expression of faith, are stronger than the forces that seek to divide.
Extremely important essay on finances and Anglican Communion. TEC paying far less is, one might conclude, and I would, extremely important. The Communion cannot be leveraged on perceptions that TEC is paying the bills so calls the tune. This isn’t good for TEC’s Christian witness either. They are drafting ANOTHER Anglican Covenant??? The last one failed. Are they just going to keep submitting new ones until maybe one day they have success?
I thought we were done with the Anglican Covenant. It is so unwise to try to pass another one. It can only divide… Oh well.

+Josiah was a main contributor to the Covenant work. As he notes, 11 provinces signed it.
If he is meant to see to it that the provinces work together, he wouldn’t count ‘No’ votes but would want to evaluate the position of those not having yet voted. Viz.,

I, too, am concerned that the secretary-general of the Anglican Communion should even be talking about ‘another Covenant’. This sounds like a move towards the oddly-named ‘Fallowship of Confessing Anglicans’ currently holding meetings in Aotearoa/New Zealand that I don’t want any part of.
Thinking about “Messy Church” is there any news on when we might expect the possible publication of “THAT WAS THE CHURCH THAT WAS – How the Church of England lost the English People” by Andrew Brown and Linda Woodhead in its censored and sanitised form?

The continued attempt to make the failed covenant relevant reminds me of the repeated votes to repeal health-care reform in the US Congress.
Father David, I’ve just had an announcement from the Church House bookshop that the launch party for “That Was The Church…” is on again for June 16th, which suggests that the book is due around then. And from what I’ve heard, the problem that led to the postponement was a pretty small and tangential one, and the book is far from sanitised…

June 16th is the Eve of my Birthday which falls on St. Botolph’s Day – so “THAT WAS THE CHURCH THAT WAS” will definitely be on my list of requested birthday presents. You state that the problem that caused the original books to be recalled and pulped was “small and tangential” but that contradicts what Damian Thompson wrote in an article that I recently came across to the effect that almost each and every page contained that which caused the jaw to drop! I do hope that it hasn’t been too sanitised.
Bishop John Paterson was Primate and Presiding Bishop of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia at the same time as being Chair of the ACC. Perhaps the confusion lies in the fact that he was not then an Archbishop (he has been given that title in retirement), but he most certainly was one of the Primates.
The secretary general is talking about the same covenant, not a new one.
If I understand correctly, John Paterson was a primate when he was elected ACC chair, but not for most of his term.
And if TEC cuts loose the so-called communion, no one has to worry about taking our tainted money and feeling all hostage-y to the prevailing culture, which, the same folks assure us, is not the prevailing culture at. all.
The Anglican Communion has gone from being an ineffectual vanity project for frustrated closet RC’s to being a full-on wickedness acting against God’s work.
Stop pretending we do good by supporting it. We don’t – whatever aid you give to some poor soul across the world, comes at the price of their minds and souls for the Anglican Communion altar.
