The Times has an interview with John Sentamu today:

Multiculturalism has betrayed the English, Archbishop says
‘It is my job now to remind the English of what you taught me’

Outsider looking in
and Ruth has more on her weblog, Sentamu on multiculturalism
Is it me or did ++Sentamu sound a bit testy when questioned about whether he would “follow” ++Canterbury?!
I’ve got to say that multiculturalism was a dead loss. It achieved nothing and destroyed much. So much of 1960’s thinking and values are the intellectual and cultural equivalents of 1960’s architecture. Monstrous constructions based on some fictional human idyll.
Surely but for multiculturalism +John Ebor would not be where he is now. The multiculturalism is endemic: he may be Primate of England but he is also third citizen of the United Kingdom.
Of course racial equality or respect for other cultures is right and can bring great benefits to all if reciprocated. The problem was the political use that multiculturalism was put to – undermining English (and American) cultural and social values as recounted by +Ebor.
