Bishop of Southwark – no further action

The Archbishop of Canterbury has caused the incident involving the Bishop of Southwark, which was reported in the media last December, to be investigated under the Church’s new clergy discipline procedure.
In the light of all the evidence submitted to him Dr Williams has determined, under section 12(1)(a) of the Clergy Discipline Measure 2003, that no further action should be taken.

Given the muddled state of the facts at hand, I don’t know how they could have been acted on.

Well, exactly. What none of the press mentioned (obviously, since it might have ruined a good story, and that would never do) is that there is a well-known state called shock which causes people to forget what they are doing or have done. This is (whatever the truth of the matter) at least consistent with the loss of the mobile phone.

This was inevitable, I guess. However, it is unfortunate that the statement is so bland and legalistic.

Yea, they are “unfortunate” with their statments, aren’t they?
