Women bishops – Church Times report

Paul Handley has a detailed article in the Church Times today about the report of the revision committee on the legislation to enable women to be bishops in the Church of England: Resolutions A, B, and C to go under draft women Measure.

“Can we all not live with that?” the Church of England voted against women priests in the 1980’s i think. I bet you were not saying that then………….

“I bet you were not saying that then” – Mark Wharton – In New Zealand, in fact, we had been saying yes to women clergy much earlier than 1980. Women bishops did take a little longer, but eventually the Holy Spirit was able to move us into today’s world of ‘equal opportunities’ – for ALL God’s children. Mind you, Mark, If asked while I was still in the UK as a member of the Church of England (cc1950s) I would probably have been horrified. The termination of Resolutions A,B and C is long overdue. Resolution C was a particular act of folly, throwing good money after bad.
