As you say, ‘out there in the real world’ where people are actually persecuted and where the vulnerability of christians is real, rather than entirely made up.

Wilf, and others,
In the real world women are beaten and abused by their partners, denied job equality, stoned to death and raped.
In the real world LGBT people are beaten up, imprisoned, ostracised, and murdered for being who they are.
What the General Synod enacts about women, and what the Archbishop does about the appointment of gay men to dioceses is the real world. The witness of the church has effects beyond the boundaries of its legislation.

Junius, I’m not entirely sure, but I interpreted Wilf’s comment as a poke, not at those campaigning for the full inclusion of women and LBGTQ, but at the faux-orthodox who constantly pretend that they are persecuted.
