The Archbishop of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali held a press conference recently. Here are some reports from it:

The primate of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali has likened GAFCON/FCA (Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans) to the East African Revival and called for believers to back the Nairobi conference to be held in October.
In a major statement in Kampala, Archbishop Ntagali referred to the fact that exactly ten years ago an active homosexual, who was a divorced father of two children, was elected a Bishop in the Episcopal Church in America. “This unbiblical decision on the part of a church threw the entire global Anglican Communion into chaos” he said.
The chaos, the Archbishop said, shows no sign of improving.
“We have a new Archbishop of Canterbury who is born again and has a testimony. I have personally met him and I like him very much. But, the problems in the Communion are still there, and they don’t change just because there is a new global leader. In fact, ten years later, the crisis has deepened.”

…The archbishop said the Anglican Church is built on the doctrines of Biblical teaching which only recognize hetero-sexual relationships.
The Ugandan Anglican community takes exception of the decision by the England House of Bishops to allow gay bishops as part of the Anglican clergy, he said, and thus will have a Global Anglican Future Conference in Nairobi, Kenya this October to resolve the issues.
The Global Anglican Future Conference (Gafcon) will be the second of its kind that brings together Archbishops around the world who oppose gay bishops. In 2008, the anti-gay Anglican Church leaders gathered in Jerusalem, Israel to reflect on the future of the church.
Archbishop Ntagali, with these remarks, is picking off from where his predecessor left off: Henry Luke Orombi was one of the main organizers of Gafcon 2008, and also made several pastoral trips to several countries to preach against gay clergy and gay marriage.
It is not gays that are tearing apart the Anglican Communion. It is anti-gays who purport it is being torn apart. The reputation of some parts of Anglicanism is not based on its support or opposition to gays or women (whether that be marriage, in roles as priests or teachers). In parts of the world their reputation is in tatters based on condoning and institutionalising sociopathic behaviour, particularly the aiding and abetting pedophiles. With photos and videos coming out of Holy Russia of skinheads abducting, torturing, and murdering gay teenagers (and then boasting about it), the Protocols-of-the-Elders-of-Castro-Street camp of the Church are in no position to preach to anyone about anything.
Great, more ignorance and hate instead of the Good News of Jesus Christ. What do those guys learn in seminary, anyway? Don’t judge? Did they notice that Jesus stood up for the outcasts? Did they notice that Jesus himself got in trouble for not upholding the Law, hanging out with the unclean, etc.?

Archbishop Justin Welby was just here in Guatemala. I listened as hard as I could to his sermon last Sunday (a sermon btw that departed greatly from the neutral sounding words published on his website). The ABC stressed reconciliation at ¨Church¨ (meaning ¨Communion¨ also). Otherwise WE will destroy the ¨Church¨ (Communion?). The Anglican Church then does not recognise the same-sex relationship of David and Jonathan, Jesus and John? These relationship are same-sex and loving to a remarkable degree. All in the Bible, too!
Trouble is, the GAFCON leaders are so caught up in the mechanics of sexuality they have failed to recognise the validity of love between two people who happen to share the same gender.
In the light of the seemingly well founded suspicion that the anti gay rhetoric and actions in Africa are funded and fuelled by conservative evangelicals exporting the USA’s culture wars , this report makes interesting and heartening reading:-

Thank you Laurence. My love for justice and fairness is not diminished by the number of postings (or lack thereof). Have kept an eye on this website. Did not need to directly intervene for some time. Australian Christianity is currently undergoing a Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse. Lots of stuff is coming out. The sociopaths were clever, they limited it to abuse within church jurisdiction which meant a whole lot of victims (including myself) could not testify.

I would like to remind the archbishop, The doctrines of the AC are decided by an equal balance of the Scriptures, Tradition and Reason. His views do not take a reasonable account of the recent science of the human person, sexuality and how humans grow and develop.

I’d like to know what a “confessing Anglican” is. Describing ourselves as a “confessing” church was precisely what we declined following our ongoing conversations with Luther and his followers in the 16th Century. That’s why The Anglican perspective chose the more comprehensive 39 Articles, the Elizabethan Settlement and the catholicism of the Restoration rather than something like the Augsburg Confession. If the so-called Anglicans of Uganda and other places want a confessing church or a fundamentalist evangelical church, plenty of them are available – only you won’t get to dress up in copes and miters in most of them.
