I think the passing of Peter Ould’s various activities on the internet deserves to be marked.
Peter has made quite a contribution to a wide range of debates and has devoted a large amount of his time to giving us the benefit of his unusual perspective. I have learned much reading what he writes and hope his future will be bright and rewarding.

Re Richard Beck on dying from snake handling, Dan Rather once said that the town he was from in Texas was so small that the Episcopalians had to do the snake handling. ( :

I think congratulations are in order for Colin Coward after being awarded the MBE by Her Majesty. There are some bloggers who are on the wrong side of history. Colin is not one of them.

Do think it’s interesting that Peter Ould also wants to delete everything – one of the problems of infinite preservation on the web is that it may prevent people from moving on from old ideas and preoccupations. He’s also called the institution’s bluff: told them exactly what they want to hear, and yet has strangely not been warmly received, as he’s noted a few times.

And yes, yay for Colin’s useful gong and nice to see it featured in Church Times along with a good bit of Devizes meadow.

I doubt that HM knew anything about it.

This is a message from the Government.

ED: sorry this got into the spam file, that’s why it wasn’t posted earlier.

And I suppose that H.M. The Queen had something to do with Fr.Colin Coward being awarded the MBE? Oh, and yes! Didn’t Her Majesty also have to approve of the measure affording Marriage for Same Sex Couples?

It seems that the constitutional Head of the Church of England may be at odds with Her Bishops? I do hope She is not on any sort of list to be severely dealt with! That would be the very last straw.

As I’ve tried to post before

HM has no personal role. Her ‘approval’ is confirmation that the necessary processes have been completed.

A few honours – such as the Garter and the OM – are in HM’s personal gift, but all the rest are dealt with by the Government.

It is the Government that has recognised Colin.
Church of England, take note.
