‘So it’s sort of hiding a — in my view, this is hiding a core of deception and sophistry. Real apology is about a sort of exchange of power and shame. It’s about actually saying, “I’m really sorry”, but, more than that, this is what I say to my kids, “Don’t just say you’re sorry. Make sure it doesn’t happen again”.So that’s what apologies should be. Otherwise, it’s
words, not deeds. It’s prattle without practice.’
