The Rt Revd Mary Stallard, the Assistant Bishop in Bangor, was elected Bishop of Llandaff by the Electoral College of the Church in Wales today. Details are on the news pages of the provincial website: New Bishop of Llandaff elected.

That was quick! June Osborne only officially retired on 31st December 2022 – here we are a mere 19 days later and the name of her successor is known. In England these things often take months and months to be decided upon and announced.
It’s quick because the procedure for choosing a diocesan bishop in the Church in Wales is very different from the C of E. The CiW website explains the process as follows: “In the Church in Wales bishops are elected by a group of church members called the Electoral College. The College is made up of six members elected by each diocese (three lay members and three clergy), with twelve members elected by the diocese to which the Bishop is being elected. With the remaining bishops, this makes a group of 47. The Electoral College meets in the Cathedral of the vacant diocese for up to three days, and… Read more »
It’s one of those announcements where “yes” seems to be the universal response. Great to hear. The Church in Wales is an exciting place to be. Yes we have our challenges but we are moving ahead with purpose and a sense of at the very least relative unity.
