The Bishop of Portsmouth has announced that the next Dean of Portsmouth will be Canon Dr Anthony Cane, currently Chancellor at Chichester Cathedral.
The diocesan website carries more information: Bishop announces new Dean of Portsmouth.
The cathedral website has Chichester Cathedral Cleric Is New Dean Of Portsmouth.
Chichester has this: Cathedral Chancellor is new Dean of Portsmouth and Chichester Cathedral Chancellor to be new Dean of Portsmouth.
Many congratulations on this inspired and inspiring appointment. Chichester’s great loss is Portsmouth’s most fortunate gain.
An all-too-rare appointment of a priest with theological imagination to a Deanery. Does he even have an MBA? This is very cheering news. Anthony Cane is the best preacher on the Chichester Chapter, and has spearheaded some engaging initiatives to promote theological discourse in the Cathedral. Well done, Portsmouth, for getting a first class Dean. A man with brains and humanity. I would like to think that the Wash House was kept at arms length for this appointment.
Perhaps one of Chancellor Cane’s parting gestures at Chichester will be to help restore the re-naming of 4 Canon Lane back to George Bell House [located within the Cathedral grounds]?
My congratulations to Canon Anthony Cane. It will be sad not to see him and hear his very thoughtful words in Chichester, but Portsmouth Cathedral is close enough for us to attend when
Dean Anthony Cane is there
