I very much approve of the Diocese of London call for open churches. Something that every diocese – and most churches – should support.

An interesting suggestion from Fr Richard Peers that “I sometimes wonder if the debates about homosexuality are a displacement activity for our problem with heterosexuality, but perhaps the real deflection is from our unbearable alone-ness.”

Concerning Richard Peers’ article – excellent as it is, as a pointer to the ‘Gift of Celibacy/Virginity’ and its value in the Church; I reckon Fr. Richard would agree that this was – par excellence – exemplified in the life and witness of Blessed Mary, the Mother of Jesus, at the time of her Conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit. However, though Jesus did. indeed, speak of ‘eunuchs’ (virgins?) ‘for the sake of God’s Kingdom’, he did not indicate that this was the only way of avoiding the joys of procreation.
